This is somewhat of an experiment in alternate technology. I still have no computer - but I do have a very fancy phone. I'm sitting in a school hall at a percussion eisteddfod. My youngest competed in a solo section (came away with a 3rd place trophy) and is now playing in a school ensemble. The music's pretty god but I think that any child not playing should have their sticks collected till it's their turn. Percussionists cannot have sticks in their hands without wanting to hit them on something or someone.

Yesterday's run was another first for me. 30 k! It's weird setting out knowing that you won't be back for almost 3 hours. And each time I finish I realize that next week's run is only going to be longer. I'm not convinced that I love running such long distances. I get so stiff afterwards and tired! It wouldn't be so bad if I could nap but that's not always an option. Yesterday it was brekky out, a trip to the fruit and vegetable markets, a basketball match then a walk with a friend. I was a little cranky this morning knowing I had a day of listening and sitting ahead - but no sleep-in or afternooon nap.

Overall, though, I do think I'm coping with the extra hours on my feet. If only I could manage the chaffing issues!

So week 2 is done and dusted. Total distance - 67 k. Total calories burnt - a lot!!!

  1. Congrats on 30k!
I find that I don't get stiff as much after long runs if I keep on my feet for the rest of the day. Once I sit down it is over. I guess it might have something to do with blood circulation. And then there are ice baths. It is not as bad as it sounds.
Chaffing problems - we have something here called Body Glide. It works!

  2. Body glide, body glide, body glide for chafing! Also, compression socks really do work well for recovery after a long run :) Congrats on the distance!

  3. Well done! I get super stiff too--wouldn't it be nice if our lives allowed for naps, cold-water baths, etc. after every long run?

  4. Do you use Body Glide for chaffing? It can help immensely. And what is brekky out? I think that is what you said. Good job on the 30K. I like long distances if I build up gradually.

  5. Nice work on the 30K!
I understand how you feel about the stiffness after long runs! I am hoping that it improves the more often it happens.
Congrats to your son on the 3rd place!

  6. Congratulations on some great running! I know what you mean - those long runs are not exactly fun at times... I suppose it's more about the sense of achievement and high afterwards.

  7. I’m supposed to have a fancy phone but don’t use it for anything other than phoning and sms. I should give it a try. Yeah for the 30k run! That is awesome. With time you’ll get used to the longer runs and everything that comes with it. Our bodies are wonderful with adapting. I use a combination of Vaseline and plasters for chaffing. Good luck with all the long runs!

  8. Great job on the 30K run! I give a lot of credit to you busy Moms who don't have the luxury of a cold bath, long stretch, nap, etc. post long run.
